Recently I was asked by someone: “what is a hashmap?” and I’ll be honest – as a PHP developer who hasn’t really learnt java or anything, I didn’t have a clue!! So of course I asked my husband to be straight away and he says “it’s a collection of key value pairs”. Ohhh an array I said. So I learnt that PHP’s use of arrays is totally different to a lot of other languages and proceeded to inform Andrew that arrays in PHP are exactly that. He reckons it’s standard OO, which I think is rubbish as its a feature of the language but there we go. In PHP, arrays will serve you fine.
